Yes! Lots of cons have very strict rules on props and how much skin can be showing, but they really should up their rules regarding inappropriate behavior.
That was when they took a giant group photo where they all did Nazi salutes, right? During Passover and only a few blocks from a holocaust museum, no less.
I did. That was just unbelievable. Like how did they honestly think that was a good idea?
Apparently most of them apologized profusely, and a few claimed they “didn’t know what it was” which is…hard for me to believe, but even if it’s true, I think that’s kind of the heart of the issue. :\ So few of these kids are doing any research into what exactly they’re doing. Which is a problem considering what it is they’re trying to cosplay.
Another big thing a lot of Hetalia cosplayers do that bugs me is using flags as props/capes/blankets/whatever. There’s sooo many con photos of Hetalia cosplayers laying down on their chosen countries’ flag and posing on it. You’re definitely not supposed to take another country’s flag, put it on a dirty hotel floor, and lay and step all over it. Ugh.
I feel like a lot of the younger/preteen kids who watch if tend to think of the show like an actual history course which is just… bad. I’m definitely not really buying the whole not knowing what a Nazi salute is for 99% of them, though I think that the fandom seems to encourage the mindset of wars as not being serious things.
And oh man, the flag thing bothers me so much! Flags from other countries especially need to be shown proper respect.
I watched some of it with my mom, though I really don’t remember much from it at all. But yeah, the Hetalia fandom is just one of the worst fandoms out there. I hear way too many stories about them being awful at cons or literally attacking classmates who come from certain countries because they dislike that country’s character.
the fact that there have no leaked nudes in my dashboard proves that i’m following the right people
I have so many issues with a majority of Hetalia cosplayers. A lot of their attempts to act “in character” are just really damn offensive, and they often don’t take WW2 seriously whatsoever. But the icing on the cake is that I just a picture of a white girl who pulled literal brown-face and drew a bindi on with red eyeliner to cosplay the India character. Man, wtf.
